Education & Mentoring Consulting

There is a lot that you need to know if you are going to start a business. The chances that you are going to know it all are pretty slim. This is especially the case if you have never run a company before. There are a variety of ways that you can learn the things that you need to know but one of the most effective is to hire an education and mentoring consultant.

In most cases when a person decides to start a small business they are doing it for the first time. There is a lot to learn in order to run a business and in many ways the best way to learn is to just jump right and do it. There is however a problem with learning by doing and that is that you are going to make quite a few mistakes. Mistakes when you are running a business can end up costing you a lot of money. On the other hand if somebody waits until they have learned everything that they need to know in order to run a business before they start they would never do it. A good approach to dealing with this problem is to use the services of an education and mentoring consultant.

An education and mentoring consultant is somebody who can help guide you through the process of starting a business and help you learn the things that you need to know without making any really big mistakes. Make no mistake there will still be mistakes but your mentor should be able to help you avoid the most serious ones, or at least the most obvious ones. Ideally your education and mentoring consultant should be somebody who has experience running a business so they will likely have encountered the same issues before. That should make them able to point out when you are clearly heading for trouble.

There are a few things that you are going to want to look at when you are choosing an education and mentoring consultant. The most important thing is experience; you really shouldn't take on a mentor who hasn't run their own business. Running a company is one of those things that you really have to learn through experience. While a business education is useful there is really no substitute for hands on business experience. Ideally you would like to find somebody who has run a business that is in the same industry as your company but that may not be possible. The other thing that you are going to need to make sure of is that you can get along with the person that you hire. It is difficult to be mentored by somebody that you don't get along with. The two of you are going to be spending a lot of time together and building up trust is an important part of the process. This is hard to do if you don't like each other.
